vi är några personer som anser att du är en av de största skådespelartalanger som Sverige har haft genom tiderna. Vi är inte insatta i skådespeleriets konst, men vi har antagit att en av de förmågor man måste ha mycket av för att bli en riktigt bra skådis, är förmågan att kunna leva sig in i andra människors situation, även om man inte själv har befunnit sig i liknande situationer.

Det är därför vi med stor besvikelse har noterat dina uttalanden om kritiken mot nidbilder av svarta människor. Du verkar tyvärr inte ha förstått kritikens grunder, vare sig de mer akademiska grunderna eller de som handlar om svarta människors situation i Sverige och världen, i nutid och historiskt. Det är just bristen på förmåga och/eller intresse av att åtminstone försöka leva sig in i svarta människors situation som vi blir besvikna på att du uppvisar. Detta är desto mer häpnadsväckande med tanke på hur du i och med din karriär i USA bör ha fått insikt i större, internationella perspektiv. Vi antar att du är fullt införstådd i hur otänkbart det vore att en vit amerikansk skådespelare skulle yttra sig offentligt som du exempelvis gjorde i Aftonbladet nyligen:

– De har attackerat Makode Linde, en svart konstnär. Marika Carlsson, en svart komiker. Massajer som var i Kolmården och ville sälja in sin egen kultur. De borde inte få någon uppmärksamhet alls.”

Hör du dig själv? ”Massajer var i Kolmården.”
Har det någonsin varit några irländare i Kolmården för att ”sälja in sin egen kultur”, exempelvis? Varför tycker du att det självklart är oproblematiskt att visa upp afrikaner i en djurpark, i ett land som fram till bara för några årtionen sedan jämställde afrikaner med apor?

Och varför skulle afrosvenskar inte få kritisera andra afrosvenskar och andra svarta som de tycker bidrar till upprätthållandet av afrofobiska föreställningar i Sverige? Bara för att någon är afrosvensk är det naturligtvis inte någon garanti för att personen inte kan göra och säga saker som stöder afrofobiska företeelser. I ministrel-showerna i USA t ex, förekom att svarta personer medverkade, trots att det otvivelaktligen handlade om ett dehumaniserande förlöjligande av svarta människor.

Det verkar som att du lever i tron att afrosvenskar och vita svenskar lever sin vardag på jämlika villkor, och att det bara är folk som av olika skäl vill vara bråkmakare som klagar offentligt. Vi vill inte bli långrandiga med att rada upp mängder med exempel som visar på hur vardagen ser ut för afrosvenskar – vuxna och barn – och hur den därmed skiljer sig från vita svenskars vardag. Det finns offentlig statistik, kvalitativa undersökningar och annat som du kan söka upp om du vill veta mer. Det enda vi hoppas på att du försöker börja förstå att vi som klagar på afrofobi gör det på välgrundade skäl, och vi skulle inget hellre vilja än att afrosvenskar blev behandlade som jämlika alla andra i Sverige, så att vi kunde få ägna oss åt trevligare saker än att protestera.

Has there ever been any Irish in Kolmården to ”promote their own culture”, for example? Why do you think it is perfectly fine to show Africans in a zoo, in a country that until only a few decades ago equated Africans with apes?

And why would Afro-Swedes not be allowed to criticize other Afro Swedes and other blacks that they think contribute to the maintenance of Afro-phobic beliefs in Sweden? Just because someone is Afro-Swedish is of course no guarantee that the person can not do and say things that support afrophobic phenomena. In the ministrel-shows in the U.S., for example, there were some black people who participated, even though it undoubtedly was a dehumanizing mockery of black people.

It seems that you hold the belief that Afro-Swedes and white Swedes live their daily lives on an equal footing, and that only people who for various reasons want to be troublemakers complain publicly. We do not want to be long-winded and line up lots of examples that show what everyday life is like for Afro-Swedish people – adults and children – and how it differs from the lives of white Swedes. There are official statistics, qualitative surveys and other things that you can look up if you want to know more. We only hope that you try to begin to understand that we who are complaining about afrophobia do so for sound reasons, and we woulld want nothing more than that Afro-Swedes were treated equally to everyone else in Sweden, so that we could devote ourselves to nicer things than to protest.
